Escrow and transfer: what to expect at closing

The deal is agreed, now the domain and the money have to change hands safely. A plain-English guide to the final step.

· 2 min read

Agreeing a price is the middle of the story, not the end. Closing a premium domain safely means neither party has to trust the other, the process does the trusting.

Why escrow

Escrow holds the buyer's funds while the domain is verified and pushed. The seller knows the money is real; the buyer knows they will receive the name before funds release.

  • Buyer deposits funds into neutral escrow.
  • Seller initiates the transfer or push to the buyer's account.
  • Escrow confirms the domain is received and clean.
  • Funds release to the seller; the deal is done.

Handled properly, transfer is the least dramatic part of the entire acquisition, which is exactly how it should be.
