How to buy a domain that's already owned

Almost every great domain is already taken. That doesn't mean it's unavailable. It means it needs the right approach.

· 2 min read

The domain you want is registered. Good, that's normal, and it doesn't mean the answer is no. Nearly every premium name is owned by someone; the question is whether they'll sell, and at what price.

Owned is not the same as unavailable

Many owners will consider an offer they never advertised. The trick is approaching in a way that opens the conversation without inflating the price.

  • Confirm current ownership and history before contact.
  • Approach neutrally, never lead with urgency or identity.
  • Anchor to comparable sales, not to your budget.
